OUR HISTORY
EDI was founded on the significant concepts and technologies developed through several generations of vehicle design by Professor Andy Frank. For over 30 years, Professor Frank has consistently developed breakthrough vehicle technology, resulting in his being credited as the “Father of the Modern Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle.” Much of his work has been done as senior professor of Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Davis, where his seminal work became the direct source of the worldwide movement to Plug-In Hybrids.
His graduates have become high-value engineers and managers at many major OEMs and Tier 1 Automotive Suppliers. Professor Frank holds world records in fuel economy, has designed nine generations of PHEVs, is a four-time winner of USDOE Advanced Vehicle Design competitions, holds over 30 patents, and is recognized by Congress for his leadership in the field of Plug-In Electric Vehicle technology.
EDI is commercializing the advanced Plug-in-Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) architectures and patented enabling technologies developed at the University of California, Davis, by Professor Andy Frank, as well as the many new technologies and solutions for PHEVs, HEVs, and EVs under development by the company's innovative engineering organization.
Our Company's Founding Vision is to displace massive amounts of petroleum use around the globe through ever-increasing integration of renewable-based fuels and other energy sources to Plug-in Vehicles and the grid, resulting in energy security and independence, CO2 and air pollution mitigation, and superior vehicle performances and economics.
Our Product Offerings include drivetrain controllers, control software and algorithms, high efficiency transmissions, prototype drivetrains and architectures, proof of concept vehicles, battery modules, and other critical components sourced from strategic partners.
Our Support Services include drivetrain engineering, design, analysis, and technical and manufacturing ramp up support.
With an R&D Center based in Dixon, California and administrative offices in Silicon Valley, the company's core management team includes a blend of seasoned automotive industry executives, accomplished Silicon Valley professionals, and a world-class team of advisors with significant industry experience and established relationships.
EDI's Intellectual Property Assets also include an exclusive licensing agreement for the related patents from the University of California, Davis.
